Music Choices

The website we are using to get our royalty free music is 'Beat Suite'. The music we have been looking at all revolve around the idea of building suspense and mystery due to the fact this is stereotypically what psychological thriller trailers contain. This is in order to keep the audience enticed until the very last shot.

Music options:

Chosen music:

At the beginning of the trailer we have decided to use the track 'Dark Undertow'. We are going to use the beginning of the track due to the fact it is quite a slow piece of music but is full of suspense. It consists of a monotone, ringing sound which we are going to use when Zacs mum finds out her son is dead. This piece of music will be able to connote her shock and inability to process what she has just found out. In my research I discovered many trailers such as 'The Girl On The Train' and 'Split' contains this style of music at the beginning and is it very effective in building suspense.

During the middle section of the trailer where the drama is at its peak we are going to be using the track 'Journey Into Darkness'. This track is of faster pace and includes the sound of drums. The drums, in the case of building suspense, sound like a heart beating fast this connotes to the audience the suspense of the trailer and raises tensions even higher. In my research I discovered that many thriller trailers contained this at the climax of the trailer such as the 'London To Brighton Trailer'.

At the very end of the trailer where a mystery person is seen picking the heads off flowers that had been placed on Zacs grave we are going to use the track 'Im Watching You'. This music is eery and slow. It contains the sound of bells which help to build the suspense until the very end of the trailer keeping the audience enticed.

Planning Of Characters

Detective Marshall

Detective Marshall is the head detective on the case of Zacs mysterious death. Although only her upper body will be seen as she is sat at her desk it is still crucial her costume is right to portray her role correctly. She will be wearing formal attire: a black blazer/ smart top, black trousers o skirt. Her hair will be neat and her make up minimal. All of these elements with contribute to her going across to the audience as formal and important. The trailer for 'The Girl On The Train' also includes a female detective wearing similar clothing conveying this is a convention of real media products.

Zachary Lane (Niall Hay)

Zac is a popular, happy teenage boy who attends St Neots school. He is very well liked and has many friends therefore when the dramatic event occurs many are left shocked. Things take a turn for the worst when he is found dead in the school toilets. His outfit will be casual and stylish, stereotypical attire for a teenage boy. He will be wearing black skinny jeans, a T shirt, trainers and a jacket. His hair will be short but styled.

Stacey (Abbie Arshed)

Stacey is Zacs best friends and has been for years. She also is popular and has many friends. When the news of her best friends death is revealed she is prepared to do all she can to find out what has happened. Stacey will be seen in casual but stylish clothes stereotypical for a teenage girl. She will be wearing denim jeans, trainers, a t shirt and a black jacket. Her hair will be down and curly. The girls in the 'Split' trailer are seen to be wearing modern casual clothes connoting that this miss en scene is conventional to real media products.

Mrs Lane (Jenny Arshed)

Mrs Lane otherwise known as Zac mum is a well known and well loved women. Who is understandably broken by the news of her sons death. She will be seen wearing a dressing gown due to the fact she will be in her own home at night and this is stereotypically the attire somene would wear at night time. The dressing gown also connotes warmth which also symbolises Mrs Lanes character. Her hair will be down and straight.

Changes To Bloodshed

We have decided to change the name and font of our film. This is due to the fact we believed the name 'bloodshed' was more conventional to the horror genre compared to the phycological thriller genre as a result of the name connoting gore which is stereotypically associated with genre. Also the font we had used appeared to look like blood splatters, again more conventionally associated with the horror genre. Also our old film name features a knife in the title, this along with the element of blood and gore appeared too stereotypical to the horror genre.

We have deiced to change our film name to 'No More'. This is due to the fact it connotes mystery which is stereotypical to the phycological thriller genre.

Changes To Bloodshed

As a group we have decided to change our film from a certificate 18 to a certificate 15. This is because our trailer does not contain blood or violence. Although it does contain heavy drinking and does contain psychological factors that could play with the mind.

Vlog Of Setting 4 - The House

One of our filming settings was my house. At this setting the character Stacey is shown be trying to solve her best friends death. This connotes to the audience how determined she is to solve this crime. Stacey is only shown to be wakening up from nightmares, looking aggravatingly at her detective board and dropping alcohol bottles. These clips are going to be used to connote to the audience the deterioration of Stacey's mindset and how the death of her best friend is causing this. In my research I found out that many films of the thriller genre are set in houses such as 'The Purge'. This is because a house is generally known as a safe place therefore for something bad to happen her is out of the ordinary and even more shocking to the audience.

Risk Assessment

Changes To Bloodshed

  • One change that we have made is the name of the school. In our pitch we had called the school Pennyville school but when filming at the police station the sign says St.Neots therefore we have changed the school name to St.Neots school.
  • Another change we have made is removing the character Kimberly from our trailer this is due to the fact we didn't want to reveal the antagonist to the audience as we wanted to keep the element of mystery. As well as the fact we wanted to include minimal characters as we wanted to keep our plot clear to the audience.

Order Of The Bloodshed Trailer

Props

  • We have made these numbered pieces of paper to put by parts of Zacs body and by any evidence as these are what you would see at a crime scene. Therefore this will be appealing to the target audience and go with our genre of thriller due to the fact crime is a common convention of this genre.

  • Another prop we have used are these yellow flowers. We have used this for when Stacey places them on her best friend Zacs grave. We chose the colour yellow due to the fact it connotes friendships therefore conveying their relationship.

  • We have also used a vodka bottle in our trailer. We use this to show Stacey drinking heavily connoting she can not cope with what has happened. There is only a shot of this falling out of her hand and hitting the floor. Throughout my research I discovered that in many trailers alcohol is shown as a copying mechanism as in 'The Girl On The Train' trailer therefore conveying that my props are conventional to real media products.

  • Another prop we have used is the detective board this is used to show Stacey trying to solve the death of her best friend. It included photographs of suspects, settings and newspaper articles. This board also connotes crime therefore appealing to the target audience of the thriller genre.

    • This mug is used in the trailer when Zacs mum hears the news of her sons death. The mug drops to the floor and is smashed this helps to connote her shock.

    Planning Of Filming

    •  We decided to write into notes when we were going to film each part of our trailer to stay organised.

    • As a result of one of the shots we wanted to get requiring rain we had to look at the BBC weather app in order to decide when we would be able to film this.

Vlog Of Setting 3 - The School

     https://youtu.be/esCY7Zv6QpA

Another filming setting was the school. This was used to show the characters Stacey and Zac before his death, to show Zac entering the toilets where he will never return and where his body is found. The conversation between the two characters will open the film in order to connote to the audience that the pair are happy and all is well. The different shots of Zacs body and the evidence will be shown in short clips incorporated in with clips of his best friend slowly going insane over his death. The shots of evidence connote the audience the element of crime therefore enticing them to go and watch the film. In my research I discovered that the thriller genre does not generally include schools as a typical setting but we wanted to challenge to convention as a school is seen as a safe place therefore having a dramatic death occur is even more shocking than normal.

Vlog Of Setting 2 - The Graveyard

    https://youtu.be/0pcWU7hl1vM

Another filming setting was St Neots graveyard. This is used to show the character Stacey visiting her late best friends 'grave'. She is shown walking through the graveyard holding some flowers and then placing them on his 'grave'. But at the end of the trailer a mysterious hand is shown then picking up these flowers and pulling them apart. This connotes to the audience the sense of mystery making the trailer appealing to them. In my research I found out that graveyards are stereotypically used within the genre of horror but by showing our short clips of the graveyard in day light breaks these stereotypes therefore not relating to the horror genre.
